Stroud Yoga Space offers a variety of different yoga styles.

All yoga has the same set of asanas (postures) in common, but there are different ways of interpreting them, and so we have created descriptions of each style that we offer to help you find a style that appeals to you. Often the best way to discover is to try out a few different styles until you find one that resonates with you. We also have a few different forms of Pilates which are also listed below.

Beginners yoga

You do not have to be flexible to do yoga – your flexibility, strength, mood and general well being improve with a regular practice. Yoga also teaches you to breathe more deeply, with awareness, and to settle into the relaxation that this brings. It is the perfect balm for the stresses of modern living.

It can feel daunting for any of us to begin something new. The teachers of Beginners Yoga at SYS remember how it felt for them to start the practice and do the best that they can to make each new student feel comfortable and at ease.

Often a class will commence with a short relaxation/ body awareness or meditation type exercise. This is followed by the Asana practice – a series of stretches and postures (modifications can be offered for each posture if required). We also focus on our breathing and, in this, we bring about a particular quality of presence (being here now, in this moment) known as mindfulness. The class concludes with a relaxation session of 10 – 15 minutes or a meditation.

At Stroud Yoga Space all equipment is provided. Simply wear comfortable exercise type clothing, bring some extra layers for warmth and water if you would like.

Do feel free to speak to our “Beginners” teachers if you have any further questions.
