Stroud Yoga Space offers a variety of different yoga styles.

All yoga has the same set of asanas (postures) in common, but there are different ways of interpreting them, and so we have created descriptions of each style that we offer to help you find a style that appeals to you. Often the best way to discover is to try out a few different styles until you find one that resonates with you. We also have a few different forms of Pilates which are also listed below.

Body Control Pilates

Body Control Pilates is a comprehensive programme of over 100 exercises adapted to matwork from the ‘classical’ exercises developed by Joseph Pilates. These exercises establish good movement skills, building a good foundation to progress from, and are suitable for all fitness levels. Clients find their mobility improves and is maintained, as well as having improved body awareness, postural alignment, flexibility and balance. The Body Control exercise repertoire is based on the 8 basic principles:

  • Alignment
  • Breathing
  • Centring
  • Relaxation
  • Flowing movements
  • Stamina
  • Coordination
  • Concentration

By working on the deep architectural structure of the body ‘core stability’ is achieved and then maintained through increasingly complex movement structures.

Body Control Pilates member teachers are fully insured to teach up to 12 clients per class and are required to continue professional development to maintain membership.

Their training combines theory, anatomy and principles of fitness study and supervised teaching hours to qualify for the minimum Level 3 Matwork certificate.
