Yoga for Chronic Stress 4 week course with Cerian Smith

What can you expect from the Yoga for Chronic Stress course?

This four-part workshop will teach you what happens in a chronically stressed mind and body, and how (and why) to use simple yoga practices which have been proven to reduce the effects of chronic stress. Spaces are limited so the group will be small (5-10 people). We will use movement, breath, and meditation practices to re-train the nervous system to bring you back into balance and more able to come out of ‘fight or flight’ mode and into ‘rest and digest’ mode when you need to.

Who is it for?

Anyone suffering from chronic, ongoing stress. This might manifest in any or all of these ways:

Physical:
• Jaw or neck pain
• Back or shoulder pain
• Digestive problems
• Sleep problems
• Unexplained weight gain
• Tired all the time

Mental/emotional:
• You feel forgetful, not ‘on top of things’- you might struggle to think of the words you need
• You’re irritable, or feel sudden or irrational rage
• You’re unusually tearful or overly emotional
• You feel worried or anxious a lot of the time

You don’t need to be particularly fit, bendy, or anything like that! This isn’t a keep-fit course although we will be moving at times. No previous yoga experience is necessary, and all equipment is provided. Wear comfortable clothes that you can easily move in.

What will you get out of the course?
Information about the effects of stress on your body and brain, so you know why you feel the way you feel. Simple techniques that you can easily use in small bits of time (while waiting for the kettle to boil, for example) that can help to counter the physical and mental effects of stress. The opportunity to move and relax, easing tension in the short term as well as the longer term.

About me
I qualified to teach yoga in 2019 at Bristol School of Yoga, after leaving my job as an A level teacher because of a mental health crisis that was partly due to chronic stress. I’m now teaching yoga as my main occupation, while also training with The Minded Institute for their Diploma in Yoga Therapy. I’ve completed professional trainings in Yoga Nidra and Meditation (details can be found on my website).
I’m registered and insured with Yoga Alliance Professionals.
